The Centre runs programs for the following age groups:
- Koala Room – children under 12 months
- Possum Room – children 1 to 2 years old;
- Joey Room – children 2 to 3 years old;
- Kangaroo Room – children 3 to 4 years old preparing to start school in 2 years’ time; and
- Bilby Room – the 4 year old kindergarten room with children preparing to start school in the next year.
All programs are delivered 52 weeks a year. In particular, the kinder program, which runs from 9am to 5pm daily, can provide significantly more learning time for children and educator contact time compared to a sessional kindergarten.
It is the Centre’s recommendation, and a policy within the Bilby and Kangaroo rooms, that children enrol for a minimum of two days a week. This allows children to derive maximum benefit from their programs in terms of the educational experience, and also helps them to consolidate their learning.
Each program is run by a qualified room leader and assisted by one or more educators. The Centre’s educational leader oversees all program content and this is regularly discussed with all room leaders and other staff to incorporate Early Years Learning Framework principles, staff ideas as well childrens’ interests.
Outdoor play time is an important part of each program, and all our play yards have recently been upgraded to incorporate more planting, natural stone and sand as well as recycled material to stimulate the children’s interests and senses. All staff and children are expected to wear a hat during the summer months to promote a Safe Sun Smart Environment. Sunscreen is provided continuously throughout the day as part of the Centre’s policies and procedures. A Legionnaires hat is provided on enrolment for each child and all educators are also provided with a hat on commencement as part of our Sun Smart Policy.
